Promoting Inclusive Education of Children with Special Education Needs (SEN) in Moldova
Inclusive education process showed an upward dynamic in the last 10-15 years. Thus, there are still children with SEN (disabilities) who are not included in the mainstream education system, due to lack of physical infrastructure and discrimination from their peers and society. More than 5000 children are in residential care system.
In the last 12 years Speranta developed a model of supporting inclusive education process that is well recognized by the government. Currently, within the project "Access to basic education for children with SEN in Moldova", supported by Pestalozzi Children's Foundation, Speranta aims to develop four resource centers in inclusive education, to provide support services such as transportation, Individual Education Plans, rehabilitation . For ensuring sustainability, lobby and advocacy activities are conducted by involving parents of children with SEN and other NGO.
