In Serbia is in progress process of reform of social care system. Part of this reform is denstitualization and transformation of children institutions. Still, for youth who stayed in children homes there are lot of challenges, particularly when they have to leave institutional care.
There are not enough quality services for youth who are preparing for independent living, and often leaving care represents new traumas and risks for them. Also, the families of those young people are not well prepared for acceptance of them, or strong enough to give them support which they need.
The idea for implementation of the Family Group Conference model in final phases of preparations for leaving institutions stems from belief that the strengths of individuals, families and families networks can be mobilised and in compliance with resources in local communities, and that this fact can in great deal, not only prevent risks of independence, but also to improve the quality of life of children and youth who are leaving child care system.
