The Foundation Nidos is the Dutch guardianship institution for unaccompanied minor refugees and asylum seekers. We also provide foster care for 40% of the children entrusted to us.
Nidos would like to give a workshop ‘Intercultural Family based care for uma’s (foster care)’ at the conference. In this workshop we would like to discuss the following topics:
• UMA’s are best off to grow up in families of their own or nearby own culture.
• To enroll foster families with the required cultural background is a task that asks for constant effort and patience.
• Organized feedback and participation from foster parents is essential to the work of a professional organization.
Nidos will explain in this workshop the do’s and don’ts, the benefits of family based care in contrast with professional care and reception and the good guidance possibilities for integration of these children in our society or possible return to their home countries.
